FILM TITLE SEQUENCE & ROLLING CREDITS

9TH CIRCLE

The short film, 9th Circle, required a film title sequence and rolling credits to accompany the film. The sequence needed to be cohesive with the art direction of the film and adhere to the genre, mood, and message of the film utilizing motion graphics and typography to build a colour story and style that fit the film’s theme and storyline.

The title sequence of 9th Circle embraces the core themes of mystery, suspense, and dark fantasy, setting the tone for the short film from the outset. Reflecting the film’s visual language, the title cards/ sequence primarily employ close-up shots, mirroring the film’s own use of tight framing to heighten tension and emotional intensity. These close-ups are reinforced in the title cards through detailed visuals of symbolic objects and textures, such as red curtains, Judas’ skull, smoke, hands, and a glass filled with blood—each serving as visual foreshadowing and thematic reinforcement of Satan’s presence in the narrative. The opening title is introduced through an opening door, directly referencing the first scene and establishing a strong visual and narrative connection between the sequence and the film. Stylistically, the title cards utilize a dark, atmospheric aesthetic through the use of texture, film overlays, paper textures, smoke, embers, fire, and a grainy finish. This visual treatment supports the genre and tone of the film while creating a cohesive and immersive experience. The color palette and typography were chosen to reflect the mood and art direction of 9th Circle, incorporating motion graphic elements such as blur, inner shadows, and glows to embed text into the footage, adding both depth and a cinematic feel. The title sequence acts not only as an introduction but as an extension of the film’s visual storytelling, aligning seamlessly with its narrative style and genre.
