FILM TITLE SEQUENCE DESIGN
9TH CIRCLE
This project is a title sequence and rolling credits design for the short film 9th Circle. The sequence was developed to align with the film’s genre, mood, and visual direction, using motion graphics and typography to build the films introduction that was cohesive with the films art direction, cinematic style and narrative.
The title sequence explores themes of mystery, suspense, and dark fantasy, setting the atmosphere for the film. The design reflects the film’s visual language, using close-up framing and layered visual elements to heighten tension and emotional intensity. Symbolic imagery such as red curtains, Judas’ skull, smoke, hands, and a glass filled with blood is used within the sequence to foreshadow narrative elements and reinforce the film’s darker themes. The opening title is introduced through an opening door, referencing the first scene and creating a direct visual connection to the narrative. The visual system applies a dark, atmospheric aesthetic using texture, film overlays, paper textures, smoke, embers, fire, and grain to establish mood and cohesion. The colour palette and typography were chosen to reflect the tone and art direction of 9th Circle. Typography is integrated into the footage using blur, glow, and shadow treatments to enhance depth while maintaining readability within a cinematic environment
The final sequence functions as both an introduction and an extension of the film’s storytelling, reinforcing tone, genre, and narrative intent through motion and design.
